Welcome to the University of Sydney Union Debates Society! If you’re passionate about debating, this is the place for you. We run weekly social debating meetings and seminars, with free food and drinks, a friendly atmosphere and of course, plenty of debating. The USU Debates Society is currently ranked number one in the world and our ESL debating program is also world-class.

Meetings are held every Wednesday from 5pm in Room 351 in the Education Building. New members are always welcome!

Tournaments

The USU regularly competes in various local, intervarsity and international tournaments. To be eligible to compete at these tournaments debaters must be a member of the USU and register and trial for each tournament. In the past our debaters have competed as far and wide as Ireland, the Philippines, Canada, South Korea and Canberra.

Debates Committee

The Debates Committee is the governing body that runs the Debates Society for the USU. The Committee is comprised of 12 individuals, who each look after a specific aspect of the society. Members are always welcome to attend Committee meetings or contact any member of the Committee with any questions they may have.

Get Involved

Every Wednesday throughout the year we meet at 5.15pm in Room 351 in the Education Building for some social debating, free pizza and pide, and a catchup with friends. New members are always welcome!
